Dr. Honorati Masanja is the Chief Executive Director of the Ifakara Health Institute and a leading figure in Tanzania’s health research landscape. With a background in statistics and epidemiology, he holds a PhD from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and brings over 25 years of experience in clinical trials, health systems research, and the design and evaluation of maternal and child health programs.

He played a key role in establishing the Rufiji Health and Demographic Surveillance System and served as Principal Investigator for the SAVVY project, advancing evidence-based planning in Tanzania’s health sector.

Dr. Masanja has published widely and serves on multiple national and international advisory boards, including the RICE360 Institute of Global Health Technologies Advisory Board, Shule Direct and the Tanzania Training Center for International Health. He also serves as Adjunct Professor at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology.
